How it all started

My Accenture career began in 2014 when I was hired as the first-ever member of the Fjord team. Fjord is a design and innovation company that’s now part of Accenture Song. Over the next eight years, I had an incredible journey growing the team to 350 people across APAC. We launched new studios in New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong and Japan, designing products and services for clients across the region. My last role was the APAC Design Lead for Accenture Song. I was also on the Global Inclusion & Diversity (I&D) Council for Song, championing our people’s diversity and helping create a stronger sense of belonging.

The call of a new horizon

I was always interested in the tech start-up/scale-up space. I wasn’t thinking about leaving, but when a role for a VP of Design at an Australian product company opened up, I looked into it. There are very few of these types of roles in Australia and it was in a space that I am passionate about—employee experience, culture and I&D.

I took the role and led a cross-disciplinary team of product designers, content creators, UX researchers, UI professionals, service designers and people scientists. I can say that I now have a deeper understanding of the software-as-a-service business model. My experiences helped me empathise more with clients, better understand the challenges of working with legacy technology, and experience first hand what it takes to deliver great products.

Reigniting my career in a familiar place

The call to rejoin Accenture came at a time when I was considering whether a product organisation was the right fit for my skills and experience. One of my previous bosses reached out to me and asked if I would consider re-joining. Having spent the previous eight years at Accenture using design as a strategic capability, I realised this was an amazing opportunity to return to a role that enabled me to help transform organisations and their customer and employee experiences across a range of industries.

Past, present and future

Stepping away from Accenture was a good circuit breaker for me. I felt energised and refreshed by working in a new environment. I learnt a huge amount and I don’t regret it for a second. Coming back into Accenture, it’s been all about the people. I received a warm welcome and it’s been wonderful to reconnect with friends and colleagues from around the globe. It’s also exciting to be surrounded by such incredible talent and capability. And, I still get to do what I love—helping clients solve business challenges, find new sources of growth, and design and deliver services that their customers will love. The people, the work, the variety and the impact we create at Accenture is unparalleled. I’m happy to be back and excited to step into the Service Practice Lead role at Accenture Song!
