I’m a Champa, one among the 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. I grew up speaking both Champa and Vietnamese. When I came to Malaysia for my undergraduate studies, I became interested and worked hard on improving my English. Little did I know that it will help launch my global career!
I applied for Accenture as a content reviewer in my final year of university. Our company is the perfect place to master English. As the Vietnamese say, “Có công mài sắt, có ngày nên kim” (practice makes perfect). I make sure to speak English every chance I get with my colleagues and never shy away from asking questions, so I can learn from my mistakes.
My work has also kept my Vietnamese sharp. It’s considered as one of the most difficult languages in the world, with each age group and region having a particular way of using it. Since our team is diverse and people come from different backgrounds, I get to learn words and phrases that help me communicate better. This allows me to help our clients gain better context on their customers’ content and feedback.
When I began my career in Accenture five years ago, the saying “no jobs are too big or too small” resonated with me. Now that I’m a team lead, it rings true more than ever, and I feel fortunate to drive positive change for our clients in the work that I do.
As we deliver value in our work, Accenture offers a safe and healthy environment that enables us to thrive. Besides having my mental well-being taken care of by a wellness coach, I have access to a wide range of learning and development programs that help me become a truly human leader. For instance, our Psychological First Aid course helps me identify and pick up the early signs of burnout in my teammates, so I can guide and support them.
