University Innovation Challenge

A 2-week challenge for local university students to showcase their ingenuity for problem-solving by tackling real business problems. Applications for 2024 are now closed.

 

About the challenge

Are you a local university student in Singapore with a passion for innovation and ingenuity for problem solving? Then this is for you!

 

The University Innovation Challenge is a yearly case competition where 12 teams of undergraduates across 6 schools tackle a real business problem over the course of 2 weeks.

 

Each year, the challenge statement is identified based on a real-world pressing issue by a team of subject matter experts in Accenture Singapore.

 

In the finals, the top 6 teams will contend against one another in a bid for the top 3 winning titles in the University Innovation Challenge for the year!

The Challenge

Week 1
Day 1: Opening Kick-Off [In Person]

Day 6: Mentoring Insights – Presentation of ideas [In Person]

Evaluation criteria
There are 3 evaluation rounds in this University Innovation Challenge.

 

Evaluation Round 1 - Registration
During the registration process, each team will be required to submit one application. Based on your response, 12 exceptional teams will be shortlisted to compete in the University Innovation Challenge.

 

Evaluation Round 2 - Semi-finals
The 12 selected teams will refine their ideas with mentoring from experts over 1.5 weeks before pitching for a spot in the finals.

 

Evaluation Round 3 - Final Round
This is the final round, where the top 6 teams will present their winning ideas to our team of judges and convince them why their solution is the best way forward. In this round, the public will also be invited to vote for the best idea and contribute to the final results of the University Innovation Challenge.

 

The qualifying teams and the winner of the Innovation Challenge will be chosen based on the following considering factors:

 

Originality of idea

  • How original is the idea?

 

Resourcefulness

  • How resourceful is the team based on depth, quality and sources of research, and ability to leverage on tips from mentors.

 

Clarity of narration

  • How clear is the idea articulated.

 

Feasibility and In-Depth-thinking

  • How feasible are the ideas and the level of thinking.

 

How you can join

1. Registration: Gather your friends and form a team of 4 (min) to 5 (max) members (all members must come from the same university). Have 1 representative register online on behalf of the team. 

2. 2 days after registration: You will receive a document via e-mail within 2 days. In this document, 

a. List the rest of your team members.

b. Respond to the 2 questions.

3. For qualification: Submit this document within 1 week for evaluation to jamaica.guanzon@accenture.com. Shortlisted teams will be notified via e-mail and/or call before the challenge begins.

 

If there is any withdrawal of members after registration, each team must have at least 4 members to remain eligible for the competition.

Prizes

In addition to the top three winning prizes, outstanding participants will stand a chance to land a role with Accenture!

1st place

The team winning first place wins SGD3000*.

2nd place

The team winning second place wins SGD1200*.

3rd place

The team winning third place wins SGD800*.

*Prize indicated will be presented as a cash equivalent.

The challenge will test your analytical, entrepreneurial, and teamwork skills to assess whether you can excel in situations like those faced by our people at Accenture. The evaluation will be based on your originality of the idea, resourcefulness, clarity of narration, and the feasibility and in-depth thinking of the conducted research submission. The public will also be invited to vote for the best idea and contribute to the final results of the University Innovation Challenge.

Everyone who registers in the University Innovation Challenge must be:

  • At least 18 years old
  • A current university student from NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT or SUSS
  • Fluent in the English language

Yes. Each team will be required to submit one application and 12 exceptional teams will be shortlisted to compete in the University Innovation Challenge. 

 

Shortlisted applications will be notified via e-mail and/or calls before the challenge begins.
